Albion’s greatest ever centre back [excluding cup games, double headers and matches were Bill didn’t play] gives the low down on a historic match of firsts – Pamela’s first headed goal, the Prince’s first contact with his toes, oh, and Albion’s first win over Whitehorse Wanderers. Read Simon’s match NOW!
Albion’s greatest nemesis in the 09/10 season were Whitehorse Wanderers. Putting all stats to one side except this one – Albion had never previously beaten WW. Press rumours still circulate to this day that this may not have been the case if the unbeaten (& now tried and tested set-up) combination of Bill in goal and Simon at centre back were given the opportunity to make Albion watertight at the back against what is becoming a new arch rival.
Anyway coming into the game the squad was at full strength with the exceptions of Jim (damaged ribs in a yoga retreat), Jindy and Matt. With the return of Albions very own Boris Becker into the squad the warm up was actually a delight. Will for the first time since 1994 was able to touch his toes. Amazing stuff – I for one was amazed.
So the game started and got to half time rather quickly. 45 minutes done – not too much action; the odd chance here and there. Don fell over the ball when clean through on goal. Vil shouted at the ref quite a lot. Rich had a one on one opportunity and was unlucky not to add to his tally this season. I cracked my head into there full back after a box to box run to get on the end of a cross.
Team talk commenced and then so did the 2nd half. If I’m honest I think the first WW goal started way back on the half way line when I gave the ball away. A sweeping move with pace and numbers flooding the box and the ball got across the line in-between a lot of players. 0-1 to WW.

Palac: A big slapper
Commence Operation Comeback. Some better pressure from the midfield and better use of the ball resulted in a chip over the back line of WW. The ball was then crossed into the box where it somehow hit Vilem’s head and went in. Vil was surprised, I was surprised and I think most people were. Vil ran off slapping his head to celebrate and indicate the ball hit his head and show that the ball clearly was not directed towards goal in the form of a proper Andy Gray style header. The assault of long throws continued and now I manage to connect on one anf flick it into the danger area where there Nick Evans slammed home from 3 yards out. Albion turn in around in 5 minutes.
Â
WW come back and attack more at the Albion. Stu and the defence are rock solid with Stu heading balls and giving a “UUUUUUUUUUH†every time the ball got sent back to where it came from. Top work. So now the game opens up with WW sending more men forward there is the opportunity for more goals from the Albion. The additional goals come as well! First From Nick to get his brace with a sweet volley from 15yards out and the final and fourth of the day from Steve with a nice touch of control, turn and shot.
The game ends and the league just starts to get interesting again…….

You could write for the Sun such is your recollection of the game.
Pretty sure Rich assisted in all 4 goals, Dave swept everything up in midfield alongside the tall bloke & Steve’s introduction in the 2nd half really helped change the direction of the game.
