The weekend started well for Albion with a great night at Wimbledon dogs. A few of the Northern boys were showing off and decided to get big jugs of beer in, they said Carling on them but it was really Stella, this was fairly clear later on in the night!!
Jade was ready to give a stern word to one of his players, re-enforcing his position as manager; Bill told him that Matt had put £150 on a dog, Jade didn’t know if to be more concerned with the possibility of him gambling so much money, or that he didn’t read the email!……………At this point he realised it was a joke.
Then, for the 2nd year running, on the last race of the night, Albion correctly bet on the winning hound raising money for the club.
Let’s get onto the match…….
Albion were away to St George’s FC, it was a nice morning for football, the pitch was flat albeit slightly on the narrow side. The formation was 4-4-2, the line-up; Bill GK, Don RB, Stew and Barny CB, Will LB, N.Milne RM, Matt and Si CM, N.Evans LM, Jonny and Steve FW. Subs on the day were Rich and Joey Essex.
Both teams started well, trying to play a passing game to break down the opposition. St George’s were slightly more successful, they had better movement and created more space for themselves to play. Albion did have spells of decent possession, however were unable to create any clear chances, the narrow pitch working to their disadvantage.
St Georges then opened up the scoring; it wasn’t a memorable goal, just average, 1-0. They then scored two more goals, one from open play, and then a header from a corner. The half time whistle went and Albion went off 3-0 down.
Shortly after the restart St George’s scored again from a corner; some may say it was a soft goal, others may say lucky, 4-0. Jade decide to make two changes at this point, replacing Jonny with Rich, and Nick E with Dan K.
Within five minutes of the changes, Matt’s hamstring decided it didn’t want to work anymore, he had to come off the pitch, no other subs on the bench meant Albion were down to 10 men!
Albion then conceded another ‘mixed bag’ of three goals to make the score 7-0.
Albion had a corner which was delivered by Nick Milne (via UPS) to Rich’s head at the back post, consolation goal 7-1. The only person on the planet at that time who did not believe in consolation was Will Slater, he sprinted back to his own half and let out a passionate war-cry! “Come on lads, we’re still in this…..†What we were still in only he knows!
The game was finished off with a cross from the right that somehow managed to fly over Bill into the far side-netting of the goal. That was the last of the scoring, the whistle blew and Albion had lost 8-1, and it could have been more!
Albion FC will have to bounce back from this painful defeat and continue to play the passing football they believe in. It has been done before, Arsenal managed to bounce back after Man U put eight past them at the start of last season.
Albion are at home next to Cyrus the Great, they’ve beaten them once this season, and need to beat them again to get their season back on track.
