SET PIECE SEALS SURREY CUP SUCCESS

Thomas: Set piece broke deadlock

Albion moved through to the second round of the Surrey Cup with a 1-0 win over Watchetts.

The club’s longest ever journey to an away fixture was rewarded with victory when Don Thomas’s 80th minute free kick broke the deadlock. Until then Albion had played some nice passing football, but had failed to really trouble Watchetts.

While Albion played the better football, Watchetts probably felt unlucky not to have scored one of several good chances that fell their way. However, both headed efforts failed to find the target.

The oddly lifeless game, played at the pace of testimonial, finally dribbled to it’s conclusion and the team were able to make their return to civilisation.
