Three players secured all the votes in the man of the match award this week. Rich was nominated for his performance at right back and then in centre mid. However, the joint winners this week were Walter and Marcus.
The nominations for Henri Leconte were similarly dominated by a just a few players.
Walt also picked up a couple of votes for what was probably the key moment of the match – an incredible save where he tipped a ball destined for the top corner onto the bar. It was a terrific save and deserves to special mention.
However, the rest of the nominations were dominated by the brothers Carlile. Harry was nominated for admitting that the foul stench in the changing room was emanating from his base layer. Apparently, the toxic garment hadn’t been washed for “at least 15 matches”.
However, the winner was Will for a variety of nominations. He picked up votes for his motivational kit wash. In a bid to inspire the team to victory he’d pinned a motivational message to each shirt. Unfortunately, his Mourinho-esque attempts at motivation had failed to take into account the fact we weren’t wearing the red kit this week, so the inspiring messages will have to remain locked inside the kit bag.
Will was also nominated for another kit related incident when it was noticed that he’d played the entire match with his shorts on back to front. And finally, everyone’s second favourite Carlile brother was nominated for managing to attract a cloud of flies in The Alex. Will was at a loss as to why the flies were so attracted to him, “I can’t explain it,” he said. “But they seem dead keen on this base layer Harry’s given me to wear.”
