This was an away game, and the Sunday’s proceedings started of as usual,  but I was running late due to some bowel action.  To my surprise every one seem to have tape on meaning I wont be needing to hand over any tape again, maybe I should be late more often.
With all this going on, we knew at the back of our mind’s we had an important game to win, as our recent form had been disappointing, losing 2 games on the bounce. We knew the task ahead with Southbank wasn’t going to be easy, as we had beaten them before and I’m sure they wanted to get their own back. We had a few people missing through injury or absentees but still a strong squad.
The Starting line up was 4-5-1, Bill, Myself, Dave, Myles, Will, Dan S, Simon, Steve, Nick M, Rich and (shinpad Jade on the bench) It was important for us to employ pressure straight away.  Whistle went, and the play was quite open for the first 15mins. Then Southbank started to apply pressure and resulted in long diagonal balls. They were also having much success in midfield with them winning a lot of the first and second balls.
At times we had good play of football and with Nick M racing down the right trying to get balls in and create something. More pressure again and nice play from the right from Rich and Nick M.  Few more chances fell through for Southbank which resulting with an over the top ball, the ball looked like it was going out as most of the defence stood still, their striker back heeling from an acute angle to our disbelief. 1-0 down.
Southbank’s second goal was from midfield, one of the midfielders had the ball, with no one closing him down, to take a shot from 25 yards edge of box.  The second half couldn’t come sooner, after some inspiration talk from the gaffer and captain Will, we tried to not get on each others back, and stick to play football.
Most of the second half we played much better having more possession of the ball, and creating more chances. Southbank’s third goal was a blur to me, as I was enraged with anger and disappointment being 2-0 to these guys, as they keep on moaning and time wasting most of the match.  We got a goal back, a through ball to Steve from Rich, a powerful shot that almost ripped the ripped the net 3-1. From there we were trying to get back into the game, but at times were caught as we tried to get some goals back, I moved to leftwing, Dan to RB I guess to get some more height and power in the midfield in the attacking third.   A mediocre performance overall, but better in the second half. We are still by no means nowhere near our peak, at the moment the cutting edge is not there, but hopefully will things will change at our next match at home on Sunday.
