Albion’s Australian academy has produced its first graduate with the signing of Andy McCue. The utility midfielder and defender has signed a one year deal with the club following a succesful summer trial.

The academy was established in 2008 by Albion legend Neale Scott to provide a talent pipeline to the club. Scott spotted McCue whilst playing 5-a-side with him and quickly moved to secure his services. A club spokesperson said: “Neale knows how to pick them. He’s always had an eye for talent. Anyone who’s spent a night in Inferno’s with him knows that.”

It is understood that Scott has been working hard with McCue on his technique and that he has been able to master both the ‘Scott turn’ and the ‘backwards tackle’.
