Dyer was seen as an obvious choice to portray Albion ‘geezer’ Nick Evans. Dyer himself has expressed his pride at being selected but also a degree of apprehension at being asked to portray the Albione once described as “wider than the Atlantic”. Dyer said: “This guy Evans is well norty, know what I mean bruv? Not just a little bit. He’s proper out-of-his-manor-surrey-to-west-end-tasty-with-the-firm norty, if you get me. With an ever changing cast list, some have questioned whether the film will ever go into production, but Dyer’s signature is seen as a coup for Barker. He remained coy on other likely cast members although did reveal that he was deep in discussions with Ben Kingsley to reprise his ‘Don Logan’ character from ‘Sexy Beast’, in order to portray Dan Roberts. Kingsley, however, is rumoured to be reluctant to undergo intensive make-up to sufficiently age him for the part, and has also balked at the level of swearing involved.

The latest rumour circulating the internet suggests that debt-ridden Wesley Snipes may be considered for the role of Jade Barker, and is now in training to acquire the necessary physique. Other rumours suggest that Terrence Howard is favourite to portray Player of the Year, Rich Pemberton, and in preparation, is undergoing an operation to have his hamstrings shortened.Â

Howard: Breaking his body down

A CGI enhanced cameo from Dustin Hoffman is also expected, to represent dashing winger Nick Milne. Bourne Trilogy star, Matt Damon, however, has turned down the chance to play Jim Rothwell / Matthew Carroll/ James London / Dimitri Karpinski, describing the character as “too complex”.

And in a final and controversial twist, Jim McPhee, right-wing father of Albion’s David, commented that it was unlikely that anyone could be found to portray Albion skipper, Jindy Mann. “Asians are no good at acting or football.
