Albion opened the new season with a disappointing defeat, but notable for some fine individual performances. This week’s Man of the Match, as voted by the players, was Terrence Howard-a-like, Rich Pemberton who bagged a brace in the 3-2 loss. Coming a close second were debutante Andy, and emergency right-back, Don. There were votes also for Barny, Vilem and Dave (now bringing the Dave Role to left-back).

The Henri Leconte was a more clear cut affair. Barny and Stew were clear winners after their special tandem quadriceps stretch which was variously described as “weird”, “stupid” and “gay”. They also collected votes from one individual who nominated “all the stupid cvnts who got married in the close season”. Nice one, Bill.
Finally, a reminder of what the Henri Leconte award is for. It’s to commemorate something amusing that happened on or off the pitch. It might be something that someone said or did*. It’s not, as 3 people thought yesterday, a chance to point out elements of another individuals poor performance. If you’ve had a stinker, we’ll take the piss in the pub (or behind your back). We don’t need to take a vote and formally announce it.
