Albion continued their pre-season preparations with a 2-1 victory of 4th division side Merton Athletic.
In conditions which could be described as both aquatic and agricultural, the Albion fought out an unnecessary tight game of little quality. In what could have been a shite movie about “getting the old band back together for one last gigâ€, the Albion welcomed back Jim Rothwell, Nick Evans and Jindy Mann with Simon Abbott playing his second game in as many weeks following his return from injury.
There was a debut for triallist Josh Wilson, who played in the singular forward position in the 4-2-3-1 formation.
First goal for the Albion was an own goal (not Will, he’s retired remember) and then quickly followed by a fantastic header by Josh to make it 2-0.
Merton answered back during the second half with an unmarked header from a corner, however the Albion played the rest of the game out and could have finished with more than the 2 they notched.
